Mason sweeps VARAC weekend at CTMP

"The Sweep"

The H.J. Pfaff Audi Historic Race team was back at it again this past July 28-29 weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park for the BARC Grand Prix of Ontario Touring Trophy.  This is round 3 of the VARAC Canadian Historic Series. The 1981 Audi 80 GT Historic race car driven by H.J. Pfaff Audi’s Shop Foreman Perry Mason, grabbed the G class pole position Saturday morning to start the weekend off.

Cooling system modifications done to the car after learning a few tricks in June, had the car cooperating as it should and the car was “flawless” stated Mason. Easily taking the win in race 1 Saturday and full points, the team was confident for the two 25min races on Sunday.

With assistance from Master Audi technician Darryl Hopp, and crew members Mark Harris and Ty Tupper, the car was checked over and all details addressed. Perry also mentioned “We had many visitors drop by today and it’s very humbling and nice to hear fans from adults to kids tell me this is their favourite car, they love the wide fenders and deep red colour, as well that it is a rare Audi”.

Race 2 Sunday morning was met with Sunny skies and beautiful temperatures around 25c. When the green flag fell, Mason had a huge run at the start passing some upper class cars prior to getting passed back on the Andretti straight by the more powerful V8 powered classics. This move however allowed Mason get a gap between he and the competition in his class. The race 2 win was in the books and the team was set for the final race after once again going over the car to ensure all was well. This day, Pfaff Autoworks Manager Jeff Pabst was on hand to assist in the pit operations.

With the drop of the green flag in the final race for the Grand Prix of Ontario, Mason blasted to 5th overall before turn 5, But was short lived when the higher classed cars once again passed on the back straight. Keeping a firm lead in class G, through two cautions and debris on the track, the sweep was realized and the class win in the Grand Prix of Ontario belonged to Team H.J.Pfaff Audi and Perry Mason. “It was a perfect weekend, the car was perfect and we had a great event".

"Many thanks go out to H.J.Pfaff Audi, Pfaff Autoworks and my crew” Stated Perry.
