Pfaff Motorsports and the Champion Ron Fellows Canadian Karting Championship, round 2Aug 24th, 2016
On Sunday, July 24, the Champion Ron Fellows Karting Championship moved to Mosport Kartways at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park for its second event of the season. With over 180 entrants in 11 different classes, the event was unexpectedly well-attended, with fields in some classes totalling over 30 karts.
With engines in the various classes tightly controlled (both the Briggs and Stratton and Rotax engines are “sealed” from the factory), racers have to work with their chassis, gearboxes, and tire pressures to gain an advantage – and the racing is very close and competitive. Practice and qualifying sessions in the morning led to “pre-final” rounds that set the starting orders for the thrilling final races, which were action-packed, including a couple of rollovers (fortunately, the racers were all okay).
Pfaff Motorsports presents two awards – Driver of the Day in both Junior and Senior classes, across all different engine and kart types.
Congratulations to Gavin Saunders, from the Briggs Junior class, who qualified 10th, finished sixth in the prefinal, and won in the final, today’s Junior winner. And to Alex Da Silva, from Briggs Senior – a rookie driver this season competing in one of the largest fields of the day that pulled out a strong win, for the Senior award.
