A VW Golf just set a world recordJul 9th, 2015
The folks over at VW USA set a new world record for lowest fuel consumption of a non-hybrid car. That’s quite an achievement, but when you hear about what they did, you won’t believe it.
These guys drove a bone stock Golf TDI more than 8200 miles (that’s over 13,000 km) on just 101.43 gallons of diesel (395 liters). That’s an average MPG of 81.17 or 2.89 l/100km! Insane. They only spent $294 on fuel for their entire trip around 48 states over 16 days. They did use various hypermiling techniques to get such amazing numbers, but still; what a great testament to just how amazing the TDI engines are.
“Volkswagen’s TDI Clean Diesel engines are just amazing,” said Wayne Gerdes. “I don’t think people realize the potential mileage you can get from them. In our experience, it is possible to get truly impressive mileage results by using just a few simple fuel-saving techniques.”
