On Sunday, October 3rd, 2011, Pfaff Audi supported the Tour de King as 500 cycling enthusiasts descended on King Township and battled the rain and wind for this first-ever point-to-point cycling event. As a major sponsor of the event, Pfaff Audi provided Tour de King with an Audi Q7 to set the pace for riders as they wound their way through Seneca College.
Cyclists chose from either a challenging 50 km or 35 km course, taking them from Seneca King Campus through to the finish line at Cold Creek Conservation Area. Destined to become an annual fall classic, the courses featured single-track trails, scenic road allowances and country roads winding through rolling countryside with many spectacular estate homes along the way.
“The Tour de King is designed to be fun and challenging for all types of cyclists. We had some of Canada’s top mountain bikers, lots of first time cycling event participants and everybody in between enjoying the event,” explains Matt Douglas of Chico Racing.
Sunday’s weather held off for the start, however mid-way through the event the skies opened up and steady rain began testing many participants’ resolve. Nonetheless, this didn’t stop Dave Sambrook from representing Pfaff Audi and giving it his all as he competed in his first cycling race in the 35KM and placed 2nd overall for his age category. Jeff Heacock and Ab Hamid also represented Pfaff Audi as they raced in the exhilarating 50KM course and 35KM course, respectively.
