Pfaff Motorsports Watkins Glen Update – Race 1

Chris Green claimed his first GT3 Cup Challenge USA victory this evening in a caution-filled race here at Watkins Glen!! Orey Fidani won the Yokohama hard charger award for the race by passing the most cars on his way to a 28th place finish overall, and 8th in class even after having to make a late-race pit stop to replace a blown tire due to debris.

Chris started the race 5th overall, and first in his class as a massive wreck in the first corner put the race under caution for an extended period of time. In the first 1/2 lap, Chris was able to get by Mark Motors driver Marco Cirone before the caution came out. With about 30min to go in the race, there was a restart that was short-lived, as another massive crash happened in turn 1 near the middle of the field. This involved many cars, and caused a red-flag which set up a short dash to the finish with only 5min to go in the race.

Orey had found his way up to 22nd place after the second incident, however, once the race went green again, he drove over some debris from the incident which punctured his tire causing him to pit. The Pfaff Motorsports crew executed a quick pit stop to get Orey back on his way to a 28th place finish, while also winning the hard charger award for passing the most cars during the race.

On the final restart with only 5min to go, Chris dug deep to pass Mark Motors driver Zachary Robichion for 3rd overall, and set his sights on Scott Hargrove and Daniel Morad. Unfortunately, just as Chris got to Hargrove’s back bumper, the checkered flag was in the air to end the race. A bitter-sweet end for the team & Chris as we truly felt we had the car to beat, and could have competed for the overall victory.
